• Graduate of the internationally-respected four-year course at the Royal Military College, Duntroon.

• Awarded the Peter Stuckey Mitchell Prize for Leadership.

• Platoon Commander with the 3rd Battalion (Parachute) Royal Australian Regiment.

• Three tours of duty with the Joint Intelligence Organisation and Defence Intelligence Organisation.

• Two-year exchange posting to the United States Army Intelligence Center, Fort Huachuca, Arizona. 

• Intelligence Officer of Headquarters 6th Brigade.

• SAS beret-qualified Intelligence Officer of the Special Air Service Regiment.  

• Graduate of Command and Staff College, Queenscliff.

• Prize-winner in the Commonwealth Armies Essay Competition.

• Winner of the Chief of the General Staff Essay Competition.

• Director of the Land Warfare Studies Centre.   

• Senior United Nations Military Observer in East Timor. 

• Invited to address peace-keeping conferences in Switzerland, Africa and Japan.

• Plans Officer (Counter Terrorism) of Special Operations Headquarters.

• Chief of Operations of the Iraq Survey Group (ISG) – and later the Combined Intelligence Operations Center (CIOC) – US (CIA, DIA and FBI), UK and Australia – Camp Slayer, Baghdad, Iraq.

• Academic posts with the University of NSW, Macquarie University and Charles Sturt University. 

• 15 years of international contract service.
